Since we live in modern times where it is hard to imagine our lives without our mobile devices or computers, you need to understand the basics to get the most out of your budget.
Upgrading your technology is crucial in order to stay ahead of time and by knowing how your PC components work, you can allocate the biggest part of the budget to the things that matter to you.
Additionally, if you dig a bit deeper and find out more about computer hardware, you can go for an option to buy each hardware piece individually and make your PC. That way you can save quite a bit of money and still have a great performing computer.
In today’s article, we will highlight some of the things you need to consider before buying a new computer.
Random Access Memory – RAM
Most people mistake the RAM for storage, but RAM is where active data from your applications and system processes are stored. The more RAM you have your PC can take on more tasks at once.
Since there are complex, memory-hungry applications, it is best to go for more RAM when buying your PC.
If you have enough RAM you can run more applications simultaneously and make all processes run smoother. You can open your internet browser and launch a game and your PC will still run as fast as a horse among the contenders for TwinSpires Kentucky Derby winner.
So if you are planning on multitasking, go for at least 16GB of RAM.
Processor
With all the technological advancements, processors are getting more efficient and powerful every year. Nowadays, Intel’s Core i3 is outdated as there is a much more powerful i9 processor. However, if you are looking for a decent processor you’ll be okay with Core i5 or i7.
Computers with Core i9 processors are more expensive and used by professionals for complex games or rendering complicated projects. It is also important to take a closer look at chip generation. Every processor is different generations, so Core i5 8th generation is much less efficient and less powerful than Core i5 9th generation.
Storage
Your computer storage is where you’ll store all your files. Currently, there are two types to choose from such as HDD (hard disk drive) and SSD (solid-state drive). Both hard drives are very different.
HDD is more traditional storage that is less powerful than an SSD drive. It still uses rapidly spinning magnetic disks called “platters” while the SSDs use flash memory.
It is best to go for a computer with SSD just because it will improve its performance by a huge margin. Also, SSDs don’t have moving parts, they are lighter, cooler, more efficient, and harder to damage.
Even though the SSDs are more expensive, their speed and efficiency are defiantly worth the difference.
Graphics Card
The graphic card is a piece of the computer that produces the image you see on your monitor. Basically, it is responsible for rendering an image to your monitor and it sends a signal that your monitor can understand.
If you are a video editor or want to play complex games, you need a good graphics card. Otherwise, you’ll be perfectly okay with a basic graphics card.
Monitor and Resolution
Screen size is also an important part when buying your PC. If you want to buy a laptop, they typically range between 11 and 17 inches. If you want to run multiple windows at once, it is best to go for an extra screen. However, a bigger screen laptop will result in less battery life.
When it comes to a regular PC monitor, you can combine two or have one as big as you want. Nowadays, there are monitors with 4K resolution, but that is not that important. Basically, you would want to get a Full HD monitor with a higher FPS. Having a monitor with a higher refresh rate (Hz) will result in a smoother experience.
