Facebook launched an internal dating service, that was announced in May 2018. While the service works only in Colombia, ad TechCrunch transmits, its authors have big plans for the innovation.
What is it?
The new Facebook app devoted to daring is an in-built app for Facebook platform both for iOs and Android – it can be launched by using the hamburger menu. Of course, this feature will be available only for users over 18. Among its advantages is that it will be free without any paid special features or annoying is advertising. It will be a function that will help find something common to start a conversation. Zuckerberg first mentioned this during the F8 conference, which was broadcasted live on his page on the social network.
According to the head of the social network, the application will not only connect people who are already “friends”. By the way, immediately after the presentation of the new service, the stick of Tinder owners collapsed by 20%.
Why is it different?
“The service is useful for building a really long relationship, not just for dating,” says Zuckerberg. He mentioned that every third family in the USA is now being created thanks to online dating, and now it’s time for the social network to enter this market. Facebook will not have a separate application for dating; the service will be integrated into the already existing social network functionality.
“In Facebook, 200 million people define themselves as lonely, so it is clear that there is a wide field for activity here. Now it will be even easier to seduce a woman. The new feature will help build real, long-term relationships, and is not intended for one-night connections, ”he said. Zuckerberg noted that the application is likely to be completely dependent on existing Facebook user profiles. And it will give help through the function “choose something from the profile to start a conversation” to scan the personal information of the profile.
How will the registration process look like?
After you start exploring the Facebook Dating, you will receive an offer to create a new profile specifically for dating, where the only parameters left from the initial Facebook account will be your age and name. To start with a profile, you will new to write some biography details such as educational experience, job or presence of kids, as well as give the answers to the twenty questions. Among them is: «How does your perfect day look like? ». Then you can add up to twelve photos to finish your profile. Photos from your initial profile or Instagram account can be used.
In the app, there will be a feature of searching for a potential match within a certain radius around the location determined automatically by Facebook. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to set another region or location for the search, all because of the safety reasons. The matching process will be based on the way you answer the quiz at the beginning of the registration, but the algorithm will not show you those people that were blocked by you or already added friends.
Contrary to many other services on the dating market, in Facebook Dating the approval of both of the users isn’t necessary to start a dialogue, you can initiate it as well as receive a notification about the message from an unknown user.
Facebook Dating is embedded in the social networking app for iOS and Android. The service is available only to users over 18 years old and offers to create a separate profile with photos and a story about themselves. The application searches for users within a radius of 100 km and so far, unlike the nearest competitor Tinder, is completely free. In addition to a separate profile, a separate chat will appear in Facebook Dating, in which you can only exchange text messages and emoji. In addition to the recommendations, the user can write a message to any person in the search bar – but no more than 100 people per day.
The main player in the dating services market is the company Match Group, which owns the popular Tinder and OkCupid.
Tinder, which has become a symbol of the revolution in the dating services and their focus on mobile applications, depends largely on Facebook: it is from this social network that Tinder gets basic information about users.
Once, such an invention has already turned into problems for Tinder. At the beginning of April 2018, the dating service was unavailable to many users due to the fact that Facebook tightened the rules for handling user data. Then the problem was resolved in a day.
Immediately after the announcement of the creation of its own dating service on the basis of Facebook, the Match Group shares began to plummet. At the end of the trading day on Tuesday, May 1, the company lost 22% of the cost.
