There are many fonts out there that make for excellent choices when starting a website and trying to get the right font necessary to get the look you are trying to achieve. Getting that important first impression is one of the most important aspects of creating a website.
And while there are certainly a large number of fonts to choose from that will get the job done, there are more than a few that you definitely should ignore at all costs. This is because, while funny, they are incredibly difficult to read and can throw the entire style of a website into disarray.
It is ultimately up to you to decide what fonts that you want for your website, but it goes without saying that there are a few fonts that you should keep away from, regardless of how funny that they may be to look at once or twice.
Ransom Note Fonts
While they certainly have their place – think the magazine industry, from which these “ransom” notes get their name because they are essentially random letters cut out of magazines – on your website is probably not one of them.
Don’t get me wrong. These fonts stand out in a crowd and provide a pop of color, and those are certainly perks and pluses that you might want to implement, but there is one thing that really is the biggest detriment possible, and that is readability.
The readability of ransom note fonts makes it a really tough choice to want to add to your website. Simply put, it is a task to read this font if it is implemented in any kind of heavy-handed way, and using it subtly is difficult to do on its own. Stay as far away as you can from this one.
Papyrus

You might have actually seen or heard of Papyrus before: it is the font that is used in James Cameron’s “Avatar” movie. What you might not know is that Papyrus is one of the free fonts that come standard on any computer that you purchase.
It is one of those fonts that are just incredibly difficult to read when used heavily on a website. The scratchy lettering makes it tough to differentiate some words from others, and it is just a mess. If you are looking for a sexy fonts download, this isn’t it. So unless you plan on starting a blue world of your own, Papyrus might not be for you
Comic Sans

This is the one font that you can never, ever use in a serious manner. It is goofy and child-like, and the running joke online is that you never want to use this font if you want to be taken seriously. Uninformed, out of the loop, people will use this font and are often laughed out of the building.
Simply put Comic Sans is amateur hour. If you want to get a quick, short laugh, then go ahead and use it. But if you plan to make your website a serious thing that doesn’t make people close the window in a fit of laughter, stay away from Comic Sans.
Wingdings

Meet perhaps the goofiest font ever created. Wingdings serves no real practical purpose or cause because you cannot implement it in any regular way. That is because it is just too hard to read because of all the goofy symbols and marks that are involved in the font.
It makes for one of those interesting spots where you throw it in as a splash or maybe to reference something. But if you use it for more than a sentence, you are going to be in a world of trouble. The readability is absolutely zero, and visitors to your website will be left scratching their heads if you try to implement it in any way, shape or form.
If you’re looking for a good laugh along the lines of “haha have you seen how bad this website is?” then this is definitely the font for you. But if you don’t want to be the laughing stock of the web world, you might want to go in another direction and leave wingdings far, far behind.
These are just a few of the most terrible, funny fonts that are available for download, though you might want to make sure that you keep your distance if you hope people will take your website seriously.
